What is the Baby Development Scan?
Our Baby Development Scan aims to confirm normal fetal growth, wellbeing and to explore the baby’s environment in the womb. The main aim of Development Scan is to exclude anomalies with delayed development not visible earlier (at early fetal scan and anomaly scan).
The scan represents an extended version of Growth Scan and Well-being Scans, however it is much more expanded in terms of checklist and allocated time.
Our Baby Developmental Scan also includes:
- Fetal Echocardiography
- 4D Scan
Optimal time for the Baby Developmental Scan
The optimal time for comprehensive Development Scan is
- from 28 to 34 weeks
- best at around 28-29 weeks
Please note that NHS does not provide third trimester screening scans.
How do we perform Baby Development Scan?
Development Scan is generally transabdominal scan.
We can offer you optional free transvaginal scan:
- If the placenta is low or praevia (covering the birth canal) or there is a suspicion for vasa previa
You do not need to have full urinary bladder for the scan.
